I wanted to remove my EV-180 skimmer from my sump to make room for a refugium but I had no room to put it beside the tank so this is what I came up with. It works great.

I drilled a hole in the top of the elbow and put a piece of tubing in to keep it from siphoning (like a durso)
I tried using all 1" PVC coming out of the elbow and it worked but it was really noisy so I dremelled the outside of the elbow down and the inside of some 1.5" pvc then clued the 1.5" PVC over the outside of the 1" elbow.
I decided to cut the 1.5" PVC down and put in a coupler to make it easy to do maintenance on the skimmer later. I had some salt spray problems at the coupler but I glued one end and put teflon tape on the other and it's no longer an issue.
I ran a MAG 9.5 on the pump and it more than made up for the head loss but I have since switched back to the mag 7 so I could use the 9.5 as my return pump. It still does the job with the 7 but I'm planning to het one bigger pump and tee it off for both the return and skimmer.
