Well after almost a year reaserching these threads i finally got my own nano cube... its a 72x30x30 3/4 acrylic tank built by socalcreations with blue back and external overflow. It will be set as a semi reef mostly lps and soft corals with the main focus on fish.

A friend of mine will be working on the stand for me and im in talks with marc aka melev on building me a sump roughly 54x18x16... I've own a 72g for two years but only set it up as a fowlr but after reading these treads it just wasent suitable anymore. So i got the 280 but now we got all these new 450 and 600 gallons tanks so looks like in two years or more i gotta upgrade haha...
Equipment i have in planned..
Everything will have to be in the stand no extra room for a fish room..
mag 18 for return want slow turnover in the sump
tunze streams two 6100's may add two seio's if you recomend more flow
three 250w pheonix 14k bulb in the new sunlight supply lumen max reflectors coming out soon.
Asm g4x skimmer
thinking on three 250w heaters or two 300w heaters it gets hot here in cali so have to keep the air condiction on and get some fans for the sump don't feel the need for a chiller at this point...will have to see though
once its up in running for a few months i will start looking into calicum reactors.

If I was you, I would add more then 3 chromis to the tank. I would say a group of 10-15 would look very nice. ( until they start to single each other out )

yeah i don't really like them thats why i would just keep the ones i had started with 6 ended up with three iwould like to replace them with a school of anthias instead

A flame in a tank that big more then likely shouldnt nip at corals, if it was a 75g then it might but a 280g, it would more then likely be fine, But you just might get one that is a PIA and nip anyways.

that g4x is a good skimmer for that size tank.

still working on the the sumps final dimensions but roughly not that much then 80 gallons added on.. i like to feed small portions twice a day and i change water every two weeks with a tank this size have to see how it goes maybe go every three weeks not sure how you guys with large tanks go about water changes...

i know with going with a reef tank and this fish load i will have to be on the ball with water quality something i will be able to keep and eye on daily with ph probe, refractometer , and i see alot good things about salifert test kits...

i'm no expert but it seems to be alot, based on what they grow to......but like i said i'm no expert. i would be worried about keeping up with that many waste machines.
me personally, i love your tank by the way, i would cross off the blue tang and one other of the big boys. but just me.
can't wait to see pics in a few months!

thats what i've been doing for a year n half now i just couldn't wait any longer i feel i know enough to be dangerous but never enough to not call my self a noob still... but i think i would like to keep the blue tang... another thing i forgot to add is that im already "sadly as it is" saving money for the next tank... in 2-3 years i plan on my final dream tank and so will get all these fish small and transfer them to the new one... i was going to wait but a good deal fell on my hands for this tank and i figured i needed something now to satisfy my reef craving til i get my dream tank..

eagles you have a point haha. Anyway some change of plans have been made since my friend can't build the stand anymore, im thinking on having socalcreations make me one and also the sump instead of marc which will be bigger then he can ship so looking at the sump to be 50x22x18... Was also thinking about going with seio's for now instead of the tunze's thinking 2x 2600's and maybe more if needed? Also on the skimmer was wondering if mods were needed and which ones i should add? Lastly wanted input on my fish list thanks.
