Users of Hamilton 14 K Have you noticed a decrease in intensity or color shift after 6 to 8 months? I have but need to see if anyone elses. I run 400 watters on IceCap electronics.

more like after six months...hence now I am using xm 10kk.
I guess I should contribute a pic too. :)
Here is a pic I took yesterday.

I've had used XM 10K before and I was impressed with the increased growth I got with it, but I didn't have strong enough actinics to wash out the yellow. :(

Mine has been going about 6 mo now with no problems. But the other day I messed with putting the bulb nipple up, and boy, It did not like that. The color shifted blue and got dimmer. I replaced the bulb nipple to the 9 o'clock position and now, all is back to normal.

Are you talking about a SE or DE bulb? I've only used DE bulbs and I didn't know that you could effect the color or brightness with SE bulbs by turning them.

It was a SE bulb and it definitely affected mine.

I've got a Hamilton 14K DE on a JBJ viper and it looks way more yellow than yours do. I have heard that nipple orientation makes a difference with DE but here's the thing, in order to make the socket fit in a Viper they lay the socket on it's side so the nipple isn't up or down, it's on the side. Should I flip the bulb around and see if it makes a difference or will it not make a difference?

Nipple usually has an effect if it is installed pointing down. Any other position (side to top to oposite side) is generally OK.

yeah there is a little spot on alot of bulbs that is raised about an 1/8 of an inch... it is what I assume is where the bulb is finished and pinched sealed. since SE are glued into the socket. DE are all glass with the ceramic holders
