I have a refugium and was wonering if I should continue using a filter sock in there? Before I place a clean filter sock in the refugium it is white then after some time and use it developes a green/brown color from buildup. I was just wondering if anyone doesn't use the filter sock and whether they have any problems? Thanks

I don't use a filter sock because they're more work and they remove animals, etc, from the water column. I'd rather have a cleanup crew process that. A filter sock can help with water clarity, though, and if it's cleaned regularly, it shouldn't case any problems unless it gets clogged.

I usually run one when I am blowing off the live rock or moving it around. Recently, I have noticed that if I don't use one, my skimmer pulls more junk out. I only run it for about two days a week anymore.
