skimmer problems

I got an excalibur sv2 skimmer for $ 25 used at lfs if anybody knows how this skimmer works please let me know I am using a rio 1700 with venturi valve if I adjust the airflow it isnt enough air then one hour later all the skimmer does is overflow with water if i go with no valve on the air the skimmer will do the same thing I think the skimmew is a peice of s--t to tell you the truth at any rate that is what I got right now and if somebody can help me get this skimmer working a little better that would be cool I could have bought the coralife needle wheel skimmer for $ 75 the same day I should have bought that insted

make sure this discharge is either vented or is above the water line in the sump..if not air builds in drains causing water to flow right up and out the collection cup...

yep, if the exit is under water, you'll have nightmares with overflowing water in cup.

the exit is not under weter it is about 2 in above
