I have recently purcased a wet/dry filter for a new tank that I am going to set up. I am wondering if it would be better to use 2- emperor 400 bio wheel filters instead? I read that bio balls are not that great. I already have both filters so it won't be a problem using either one. I am setting up a 125g also I am plannig on a skimmer too. thanks for your replys.

if your gonna put 1-2lbs of LR per gal. in the tank there is no need then for the other filters. also bio-wheels will do the same as bio-balls, they produce nitrates.

Neither, try to take back the bio ball wet dry and get a refugium. This can be easily made from an acrylic or glass fish tank with a couple of dividers siliconed in for a return pump. You will benefit GREATLY from the refugium and so will your tank inhabitants.
