Hi I`m new in RC, I`m from Mexico, I currently have a 100 gl tank, with 2 Hamilton 250 W 14,0000K, 1 Satellite with dual actinic, DSB, 40 gl sump, crappy Azoo skimmer, and a Mag 9 for the return from the sump. I currently have this fish: 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Flame Angel, 1 Pseudocromis Bicolor, 1 Mandarin Dragonet, Sailfin Blenny, 1 Lysmata shrimp and a complete cleaning crew ( Nassarius, Cerith and Turbo Snails). 4 Acros, 1 pagoda Cup, 1 yellow turbinaria, 1 blue tridacna clam, 1 hammer, 1 torch, 1 grapefruit, 1 colt, 3 types of briarium. And somemore stuff I`m missing right now. Here comes the dreaded question, I bought and quarantined a Powder Blue tang, he was in perfect shape he ate everything I gave him, after the quarantine period, in the night I moved him to the main tank, but my Yellow tang harrased him for a week unitl he died of Ick. a month later I tried the same with a Nigricans and the same result, my Yellow tang has becomed extremelly agressive. I want another tang in my tank but I can capture the Yellow one, any advice on how to capture him or something to do??? A friend in Mexico told me to introduce 3 tangs at the same time!!! That way the Yellow wouldn`t focus his aggresivennes on a single one, what dou you think about this idea??? Or should I stop thinking about adding more tangs?????

Thanks and HI

welcome to reef central, and i hate to tell you no in your first post... but i think that tank is too small to have more than one tang, and unless you get the one out of there you risk the new tang getting killed. if you had a bigger tank you could put in one of the bigger tangs, like a naso, and i thiink the yellow might leave him alone. i don't think adding three will work, as they might kill each other with that small a tank, regardless of when they are introduced.

I'd trap the yellow tang out if you want to put a different tang in. From my experience at the store yellow tang are usually pretty bad towards other fishes. I would not introduce 3 tangs at the same time knowing you have a bad tempered yellow tang. You might get 3 ick tang as a result. If anything you'd probably introduce a tang that's totally different in shape and color than the yellow tang like a paracanthus hepatus. But I agree with twon8 you should probably upgrade tank size if you wish to keep mutiple tangs.

Thanks for your comments, yesterday I tried to capture the Yellow tang with some algae and I got really close, this was the first time ever I tried to catch anything in my tank, now the tang nows what I want to do, so I´ll have to buy or borrow a fish trap to get him out. About the Regal or Hipo tang I had that in mind I might try that today with a small Hipo and see waht happens if he isn´t harrased by the yellow those will be my 2 tangs in my tank.

Thanks!!:D

I'd recommend using a quarantine process before putting more fish in your aquarium. This is good advice:

The tank is small, I agree, for more than one tang.

For catching fish, there are a few threads on this subject. You might want to search around to get ideas. Here are a couple:

Don't forget to feed your fish proper foods. Here's some suggestions for that:

Good luck!
