What is your favorite salt? I have been using coralife salt for two years and was wondering if I should change? I have a 55 gal. Reef/

Here we go again........
I use TMP. Love it, no problems at all and great polyp extension. Everything just seems happier with TMP.

tmp here, have used it for about 1.5yrs now and have had no problems/tank is all sps. I used IO before when I had mostly softies and fish and I liked it also. It really depends on what you are keeping and what you are willing to dose. Tmp is great, but if fish only it is a waiste imo.

tropic marin. It's expensive as hell and I don't sell it so I'm not pluggin' here. I used to us IO but if you check the magnesium levels you will see why you are having problems maintaining hardness.

I use IO, but I add magnesium and calcium after it mixes.

Another salt thread. ;)

I just switched from IO to RC and I like RC much better only because it keeps the calcium higher and I don't have to add limewater and liquid calcium to my tank anymore.

Tropic Marin Pro is ridiculously priced.

For the cost of 1 bucket I can get 3 buckets of Reef Crystals.

Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it is worth it. :)

TMP
Just because something is expensive also does not mean it is not worth it...
Does anyone who is using TMP have or know the cheapest way to get it? I am in CT and have been able to get it online as cheap as $75 including shipping. In a bulk order I can get the cost down to around $67 a 200 gallon bucket...I would definitely be interested if someone knew a cheaper source...

io at petsmart.......................print out this and bring it with you , they will honor it, so you get 160 gal for $32 plus tax, do you know what shipping is going to start to cost? i could see it for fish but for salt?

doesn't matter. You should really stick with one salt. whatever you have you should stay with. If you change midstream, It sis supposedly very bad for the tank.....

Every now and then you can get a deal on Tropic Marin. That's my choice.

If you're in So. CA you can get it for $.25 per gallon in 300 gallon bags if you go in on a group order. That's $64. for a 300 bag which includes a PayPal payment.

I just use Reef Crystals or Instant Ocean. I don't believe in paying outrageous prices for salts that don't even approximate natural seawater, especially when everything has done perfectly well with IO.

Reef Crystals for me been using it for a long time much better for reef tanks then IO in my opinion. By doing a 10% water change weekly I dont need to add additives. I have been running my tanks on RC for about 10 years and only add Kent essencial elements every other water change just for piece of mind but I dont think I even need to.

I started with Instant Ocean, then Crystal Sea and now I use Reef Crystals. They cost a little more but I like the way my tank looks now!
