Can someone explain a good way to drip acclimate new livestock to me... I want to know the easiest and best way to do so. To make sure any of my Future purchases are going to make it threw shipping or the car ride home.

Is it different times for different things?

Is their Something you buy so help in this process?

Thanks for the input RC members.

It's actually very simple, but you can buy something if you don't want to deal with getting the individual parts yourself:

You can even do it by tying a know in some airline tubing and just tightening it to the point where the drip goes as quickly or slowly as you'd want it to.

Check this link. It's inexpensive and will do the job. You can also use a turkey baster and add water a little at a time, change 1/2 the water, add water a little at a time. Some fish and coral take an hour to two hours. If you take care in acclimating, your survival rate will be good. Usuall the LFS will have a chart. In fact, I'm sure there is a chart for acclimation on this site, but being a newbie, I don't know where to find it.

Have fu.

If you are getting your fish locally from an LFS, drip acclimation isn't recommended.

If you are getting inverts from your LFS, check your LFS water parameters to determine just what acclimation is best.

If you use a quarantine system (and you should) like this:
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-10/sp/feature/index.htm

then match your quarantine water pH, salinity, and (to a lesser need) temperature to those of the LFS and do a 'simple' acclimation.

The longer the fish is in the bag, the more stress and harm can come to the fish. This has to be balanced with the speed and value and type of the acclimation.

Thanks for the info Leebca, will take that into thought... Maybe I will switch my current 20gallon FW tank to a quartine tank, so that its ready for livestock in a few months... as the article said, aged saltwater is better than just mixing saltwater and then adding livestock to the quartine tank... Thanks again
