Hi,

I've built an home-brew projector using the IceCap 250 MH electronic ballast and a 250DE HQI bulb (FC2). It works great, but the colors are a little yellow because the color temp is about 4000K.

I'd like to be able to use a different bulb with a high color temp. I was looking at this bulb:

Iwasaki 250 MH Mogul (http://www.eyelighting.com/cleanarc.html)

The 250 Watt variant. But it uses a Mogul base. I really don't know much about lamp technology/verbage (MH, HQI, Mogul, FC2, etc). The ballast claims to be able to ignite ANY 250 MH bulb. If I got the right base for this bulb could my ballast drive it? If so where could I find the proper base?

Thanks in advance,
James

The Icecap 250MH will fire the Iwasaki mogul base just fine.
On where to get the mogul socket go to http://www.icecapinc.com/resell.htm for a list of our distributors.

That is great news.

Does the mogul socket have any special specs, requirements, or IceCap part number that I should look for and/or be aware of? I ask this because I've seen something about "capacitive" bases or something like that.

Is the wiring the same? My current FC2 holders connected simply with wirenuts.

Any mogul base socket will work without issue.

Any links to a site on the DIY projectors?

Sure.

Two of the usual suspects on this topic are:

Lumenlab (http://www.lumenlab.com)
DIY Projector Company (http://www.diyprojectorcompany.com)
