I've been planning a dream tank in my head as of late...doesn't everybody? My dream is to have 2 angels as the centerpiece of my tank. Specifically an Imperator and a Navarchus. I've gotten a couple of inputs on minimum tank size, but I was curious as to what the opinion in this forum would be.

Another question is would it be all right to get a medium size adult Navarchus and a juvi Imperator. I was told that adding angels of varying sizes would allow for the angels to coexhist peacefully with the Imperator taking on the role of a cleaner fish for a bit. I'm a little concerned that once the Imperator begins growing and begins to equal the Navarchus's size, will there be a power struggle, or will the initial size difference in the beginning keep things stable.

Are Navarchus hard to find-expensive-I have been looking for information about them? Thanks Jolene

300g or so IMO for a tank that could house those two full grown indefinitely

Navarchus are relatively small for the family, relatively secretive, but not particularly uncommon

Oh and not particularly expensive either

thanks so much for the input...that is one of the numbers I've heard before. I'm surprised that I got so little of a response. I thought for sure everyone would have an opinion...oh well.

A 240 or 300 would be a good tank size, my boss has a 300 with a gray angel, blueface, emperor, and a scribbled. All but the blueface have been in there for a few years now.

From what Ive seen emps are more territorial and aggressive than navarchus angels. So i would probably get the navarchus bigger than the emp for sure. Get the navarchus first and let him get situated for a while before you introduce the emperor.

TurboSnail8898 - That's great to hear about your boss's tank. Everybody here seems to love tangs and dwarf angels, so I never really hear much advice, or experience with larger angels.

Angel*Fish - I think I fallen in love with Angels. What started as a mild appreciation of beauty has turned into adoration. I think my b/f will kill me if I show him a pic of angel one more time.

XtrmCHoPZ - My plan was the juvi imperator and the small/medium sized adult navarchus. Do you think the navarchus is passive enough to let another juvi angel be introduced later? They always seem so nice at the store, but I know angels can be somewhat nasty.

I've watched an imperator chow down on a soft coral, but I've read that they'll leave stonies alone. Then again, I've seen navarchus do fine in a reef tank with little nipping. Perhaps it depends on the fish's taste.

Imperator angels are awesome. they have alot of personality. i got mine from a guy who said it was nipping coral so it had to go but he is an awesome fish. i also have a chryserus(sp?) angel in with him the chryserus is alot smaller but they seem to get along the smaller one will move for the bigger one but thats about the extent of the dominance.
here are pics for size refrence but i think it would work fine as long as you add the Navarchus first
