Does anyone know if this juvie regal is Indo or Pacific?

Easy to tell on adults but not so easy on juvies.

Indonesian/pacific is the same. Indian ocean/Red sea is different. That one looks indopac to me

Definitely redsea;pectoral area is yellow in colour and orange colour on body margins is well defined:My vote goes to the redsea. On the other hand if that was an indo pectoral area has to be is grey colour.Regal in the photo looks quite thin if you ask my opinion don't buy it without seening him eating........................ Good luck

Looks like a red sea variety to me as well. The dead giveaway for an Indo regal is the blue/gray chest.

Damn, 50/50 then. :D

Yep, looks thin but I've had good luck in getting fish to eat. Plus it's a juvie. But I really want a Red Sea Regal. :)

NexDog,
I believe that it came from the west Pacific or Southeast Asia, for it has a whitish chest.

It is very difficult to identify where a juvenile comes from when it is less than 3cm long, because juveniles equally have a yellow chest even in those from the Pacific.

Here is a 2 cm long juvenile but I cannot tell the origin. It was taken at a shop in Tokyo so I could not know how it grew.

Hiroyuki, this one is a bit further along - about 6cm.

Do you think I should pass this up?

Yes, I do not hope you to disappoint. I think that it will perish while you are keeping for some period, for those from the Philippines are weak due to using drugs. Pacific specimens are not all weak but at least Red Sea ones are hardier. Wait for a while for the better specimen.

Okay, so I will wait. Thanks for your guidance. :)
