I thought I saw a thread a while back but can't find it I got a berlin skimmer with no pump I was thinking mag 5 any suggestions
I've used the Red Sea skimmers on and off for at least ten years. They have always performed best with a pressure rated pump and bypass to adjust the flow. Never had any luck using Rios or Mags with them. Really depends on your expections though.

Hmm. I thought the Red Sea web site said which pumps to use.

For some reason, Red Sea doesn't list required pumps for their skimmers (probably an attempt to sell their own pumps). Assuming your Berlin skimmer is a Red Sea model, you can go to Marine Depot to see what is recommended. Here's what it says:
"Red Sea Berlin skimmer requires pump. Rio+ 2500 or Rio 3100 is recommended for in sump setup. An Iwaki 30RLT pump is recommend for external setup. Overall height is 21".
"Red Sea Berlin XL skimmer requires a Rio 3100 or Iwaki 40RLT . Overall height is 33".
"Red Sea Berlin HO skimmer requires Rio+ 2500 or Rio 3100 pump. Please allow 9" depth for proper installation.

Hope it helped, or did you already find one?
I see that Exotic Tropicals has an XL berlin.

Yes it helped why do they recommend the Rio and not the mag 9.5. I have not bought the pump yet. I am up grading to a 185 gal tank and just kind of keeping my eyes open for deals to piece it together when I get the tank ordered

I imagine that most pumps rated at the same GPH would do ok. For a 185 you may want the XL, depending on your bio load
