Its not much larger then the Atlantis reef tank, and I know there are considerably larger tanks in Japan, all of which flow natural water through the systems.
I guess the main line in the article is the largest tank with the "natural purification system".
If the corals are growing in closed optimum conditions, then placed in a stressed environment, I doubt they would survive or do well. They'll have to remove the stresses on the environment, or culture corals that are "stress resistant".
Either way, it gets attention to the environment which is good.
