CEHCK YOUR PROBES. neptune probe off by 4 degrees.

so i have had a neptune controller on my system for years.. i start questioning the temp and get a new probe and a floating old fashioned therometer.. ones that float or have suction cuped to the galss.. the suction cup one says 81... i have been thinking tank has been at 77.

new probe for the neptune confirms 81. not 77

check your temp probes you might be surprised

what do you mean AC? probe is for the neptune controller .. other probes are orp and ph ..

I don't know which is correct .
Pinpoint said 79F, the controller said 82F, hand held temp gauge said 76F stick on the glass digital temp said 79F i don't know i need something better.

AC = Aquacontroller

get a scientific glass thermometer. they are calibrated and very accurate. anything used to calibrate is a crap shoot.

A scientific grade, NIST certified thermometer is the only thermometer that I would trust 100%. I definitely wouldn't trust those little floating glass alcohol thermometers.....

You can adjust the reading on the temp controller. Check the manual, it tells you to test the temp with a thermometer you know is correct, then adjust the setting +/- in the setup of the controller. My AC Jr. temp controller is right on.

where does one obtain an NIST thermometer?

looked around on the web and saw digital and infared version, no glass?

there is an offset on the calibration on the software.. for example thenew probe has an offset of -2.0 adjusted and temp is showing on the controller 80. no offset and it shows 83.

what i thought was the temp probes dont go bad.. wrong... the old probe that came with the neptune controller was calibrated from day one correctly.... but after years of use it did not stay correct...

77 old probe... new probe installed showed correct temp of 80. which was after proper claibration. comfirmed by other thermometer... ggranted not scientific grade.

How long do you think your temp probe lasted? How much was a new one?

Use ice and water in a glass put the probe in and mix the probe should read 32 de ,this has work well to chech chillers for years.

i tried that once and couldn't get it to work. If i remember right the lowest it would go was in the upper 40's. I think the probe has a limited range? just a guess though.

not sure if mine is NIST but it's a "scientific grade" thermometer. you can find them in restaurant supply stores. even beer/wine making stores.
