Where can I get dow flake? Do I have to wait unti winter for Home Depot to stock it? I went looking and they didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about. I'm doing Randy's two part using some dow flake I got from c_stowers, but that is about to run out...

I had to order my bag online. It was ~ $30. Shipping is what gets you. If you can find Prestone driveway heat at Auto Zone or someplace similar I have heard it works also.

I can give you some until your order comes in.
I work downtown if that's convenient to you.

Or I can bring you some at the next meeting.

Thanks, guys. Getting some to tide me over at the next meeting would be nice. Let me know how much I owe you. BTW, Phudeb -- how's your new 75 coming along?

No charge. How much do you need? I have a 5 gallon bucket full.
The 75 is doing great. Clams are not opening up though, do know why.

Calcium Chloride. It's half of Randy Holmes-Farley's two part calcium and alkalinity additive. Here's a link:

I'm not using the espsom salts...

Phudeb -- I found it on line and placed an order -- $30.97 total (including shipping), so I may have more than I know what to do with before the next meeting. Fishdoc was right, shipping was 1/2 of the cost :-O. I'll let you know if I'll need any as the shippment may make it to me by next Thursday or Friday.

You might want to try your local farmer's co-op. They carry it here but they call it calcium chloride, not dow flake. Just check the bag before purchasing to see that it was made by dow and/or that it doesnt contain obvious bad stuff. I think 25 or 50 lbs goes for $15-20.

Thanks for the tip.

I spoke too soon on my order. They called me back and said they couldn't get the order to go through because there was a 56 bag minimum order. So I'll keep looking around. Phudeb, probably 2 1/2 cups (enough for one gallon of recipe #1) would hold me.

No problem. I can give you more to tie you over for awhile. I'm not using that much. I'll bring it to the meeting.

Co-op off Eddy Lane in Franklin has it for around $15 a bag (50lb). A short drive down from Nashville though. Call your local Co-op and ask for calcium chloride as Imsqueak said. They said no to dow in the computer but yes to CChloride and brought it out to the dock and it was Dow flake! I had NO luck finding it anywhere last winter, and I mean anywhere. Everyone stockes a kind with a mix of chemicals which is a no no.

Phudeb, my dowflake came in so I now have an abundance. You won't need to bring any to the meeting for me. Thanks for offering.

Angela, I wish I would have waited a day longer to order -- it would have been a bit cheaper to drive down and pick it up myself :)
