I am begining to prepare for my new 125 gal. My wife and I are debating on where to put it. She wants it next to our large sliding glass door which gets quite a bit of sunlight at some point in the day. I've been told to try to keep the tank out of direct sunlight for fear of algae issues. Is this the case? What would be an ideal area? Thanks!

generally avoid being right next to windows for both algae and temperature problems

You can always add a heavy drape or shades if it is a problem...

Try to go perpendicular to the floor joists (unless you're on concrete slab)

Would limited sun light be a problem? If it was only direct for a couple hours.

While algae does need light (and sunlight is the perfect color temp for algae) to grow, it also needs nutrients. In theory, you can avoid nuisance algae by maintaining water quality. I don't know of anyone successfully using that method though.
