Hey guys, I'm upgrading my tanks tommorrow, which means transfering my corals from my currenet tank which has 21" of depth, and a 4*39 watt T-5 system, to my new 24" deep 120 with dual 250 halides and 2 110 vho acentics. What acclimation would you suggest? and where could i purchase the materials?

Use layers of screen to diffuse the light over a few week period. Then remove 1 layer at a time. I'm not exactly sure if you can get plastic screen, but anything would work...window screen, egg crate, etc...

Can you raise and lower your fixture or is it just on top of the tank. Thats my favorite way to acclimate, but you can use screen. I have used fiberglass, I believe, screen that you use on your doors. I have used eggcrate too. You can find some nice screen that shouldn't melt of release anything into your water at home depot.

How you should acclimate the corals is up to you since you should know about your corals needs more than any of use can know. Just go slow like every week take of a layer of screen.

i can't raise the fixture in anyway, and i've heard of the screen, but what do we mean by screen? A sheet of acrylic or glass or what?

If you have a glass top I hear you can dip it in saltwater, then let it dry/crystallize and use that as a light diffuser.

What I would do is just purchase a piece of egg crate from Home Depot/Lowes or wherever, lay it on top of the tank and use any cheap window screening you can find and lay down several layers of that. Then, every other day or so remove a piece of the screening. This will slowly acclimate your corals to the brighter lights.

Also, reducing your photoperiod by several hours and then slowly placing it back to normal helps.
