I've noticed a few of these popping up on my rock lately. They are about 1cm in diameter and I believe they are some kind of anemone. Although the tentacles appear to have more of a bubble appearance than the Aiptasia. If they are an Anemone, can I use something like Joe's Juice to get rid of them? Please pardon my lack of photography skills...

Thanks for your time,

I am pretty sure that's Aiptasia. I had some that looked just like that before I went Anemone hunting with a syringe filled with Joe's Juice. They've now been annihilated!

With the bubble tips on the anemone, I think it a majano anemone also considered a nuisance, joes juices will kill it because I found out peppermint shrimp won't touch it.

I agree with anydarnthing. Use "Joe's Juice" to kill it!

I think they are zoanthids. Aiptasia dont have colored centers like that. They are pinkish or whitish IME. Do they get any bigger? One way to tell for sure it to touch it. If it retracts quickly, its aiptasia, if its kinda slow retracting and leaves a grey 'bump', then its zoos.

They definately retract when I try to go after them. Thanks for everyone's reply. I'm going to pick up some "Juice" tonight and have me a little anemone hunt.

Look like zoas to me. Be sure of what they are before you go blasting them with Joe's or Kalk. Maybee even post the pics in the Zoas forum.

Would say no. Do a search for Protopalythoa Button Polyp Corals or check for same on liveaquaria.com.

People pay money for those.

It's a majano, they are a little tougher than aiptasia, lemon juice doesn't work for me. I have had good luck making them move around by placing shells or rubble on top of them, then pulling them out when I can get them on the crushed coral or a rock with no polyps.

my vote goes with zoos, button polyps, not an anemone.
aiptasia has more of an enlongated stalk and isnt multi-colored like that.
button polyps will still retract when touched, and some can have VERY long "fingers"

in case you hadnt seen this from "swims withthe fishes" post in another forum, this is aiptasia, and as far as it goes, this is a "beautiful" example

I tend to think they were Majano, not Aiptasia, after anydarnedthing first pointed me in that direction. If I could figure out how to take clearer pictures (took about 10 snaps to get 1 half decent shot) it would be easier to see. I was able to capture two of them close to one another in one pic. A front and side view if you will. Pardon the hair algae...

The Joe's Juice seems to have done the trick. I will check if there are any survivors in a few days. I doubt I got all of them since I didn't want to take out all of my rockwork. Hopefully I can keep them under control at least.

To me the above pic looks more like yellow button polyps...

Thanks,
Mike

I can't say I know for sure, but I have yellow polyps in my tank that look an awful lot like those. Mine tend to be a little more clustered though.
