I am looking for the quietest protein skimmer. My tank is in my living 72 Bow front and the current one is alittle loud CPR 3 stage. Any suggestions. Thanks Ed

imo, there isn't a good hob made to date.

Try the Precision Marine HOT series. I've had one running on a 50 for years and years. Reasonably quiet, effiient, does its job. Some bubbles may get into the tank, but a little easy creative plumbing can control this. Overall, an excellent skimmer, for what it is. Extremely well made, not cheap.

deltec mce600?

there's plenty of problems on the Deltec forum about owners' experiences. imo, recirculating skimmers do the best job skimming and there isn't a hob that is recirculating.

The Remora might be one to look at. "Quiet" is relative, but I have an in-sump Urchin and don't notice it. Of course the tank itself is not exactly quiet.

I've owned a Remora and 2x Remora Pros, the Mag pumps are so noisy that my roommates use to complained about my tanks. Believe me, AquaCs are not quiet.

If you want a really quiet skimmer that is not HOB, the Deltec AP600 is an external recirculating skimmer that performs great. Everytime someone comes to look at my setup, they can't believe how quiet it is. Last year, I upgraded everything and got rid of the excessive noise. Take a look at my gallery at the AP600 performance.

I highly recommend the deltec mce600, it has worked flawlessly for me. It has outperformed my old remora pro, coralife super skimmer, and even bigger in sump skimmers I had in the past.

Again, chech out the PM Hot series of if you want a high quality, quiet, effective, well designed HOB skimmer.

Tank circulations should be vigorous, and the return from a skimmer, especially a HOB, should have no connection with this vital function. There is some very narrow thinking out there, and some very disappointed aquarists who relied on the opinions of people with limited experience and narrow thinking. Some of the skimmers mentioned are certainly not what I'd choose. One , for example, is notorious for noise and for being impossible to regulate. I've seen all of them in operation, owned a couple, and PM is my choice for a HOB, which, in some configurations, is the only option.

I have used just about everything there is from personal use or work including the above mentioned deltec mce600. The turbo flotor multis are my favorite. They do a decent job for a hang on the back.

All i will say about the mce600 is that i have been VERY unhappy with the two that i have used.

I've seen a lot of that too.

For a $500 HOB, it should work perfectly, all the time, no problems.

From what I've seen of them, theyre basically a CPR backpack with a better pump on them.

LOL the CPR is not even in the ball park of the mce600.

I like my aquac remora with the maxi 1200 and preskimmer for a smaller tank, but on my 75g I have a Euro-reef and love it.

If you don't mind the $500 tab the mce 600 is the way to go
