I think 78 is a pinch low in my opinion. But should do no real harm.

Here is an article on reef parameters. It will tell you what you need to know. I target 81 degrees. My tank actually goes to 80 then the controller kicks in to bring it back to 81 degress.

I keep my aquarium at 80 but somtimes it can reach 84f. Usually its at 82 max. Its imo to raise to 82, but depends entirely on oxygen producing mechanisms in the tank. The problem with temperatures at higher levels is that total O2 saturation(maxium O2) is lowered at higher tempertures.

Things such as a powerfull skimmer. The use of a reverse daylight refugium. Theese things are all good at producing oxygen, wich can help out especially at night. Thats when the oxygen is most critical.

I agree. I target 80 deg F, but 78-82 seems like an OK range. :)
