I have three different bulbs. One is a 40 watt 2700 kelvin. One is a 42 watt 2700 kelvin, and one is a 30 watt 6500 kelvin.

Which is best?
I did notice the higher kelvin is much less yellow...

Lower the kelvin the yellower it will be, the highe the kelvin the bluer it will be.
What are these bulbs being used for?

Out of te bulbs you have in your list I would go with the 6500 K 30 watt bulb.
For the best results I would get this bulb here. In the thread a little ways down there will be a Number to call and order one.
My chaeto was the size of a baseball, and after I added this light within 2 weeks it was double the size.
Here is the info from that thread. as well as the link.
here it is again, I ordered mine several weeks ago, the correct bulb for 10 bucks and free shipping.

IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW HOW TO ORDER THE TCP 19/85W BULB FOR 9.99 EASILY THEN LISTEN UP!!

ok,

step 1: Call the home depot supply number 1-800-431-3000

step 2: Ask for the special order department, the bulb can only be special ordered.

step 3: the part # for the bulb is 99570, this is for the 19w 5100k par 38 TCP bulb, I assume the 16w is also available, but you will have to ask them to look up its part number

I had to create a special order account, it was free and fast to set up, also the bulb is only special order so it can't be ordered online through the HD supply catalog. Shipping was free and it should take 6 to 10 days.

This is the cheapest place I have found to order the correct 5100k bulb!

I would not use 2700 kelvin for anything. Way too yellow. Will cause bue-green algae problems.

The 6500 Kelvin is pretty close to natural sunlight. If the bulbs rated CRI, should also be on the label, is 85 or higher then it is a good choice for a fuge.
