I got a pygmy hawk last week.
He went for 3 days without eating then he took some fresh shrimp meat.
He hasn't eaten again for a couple of days now.
I'm thinking he's waiting for live food now that he's had something.
Anyone second my option or have any other ideas?

What have you been feeding that he didn't eat? Have you tried frozen meaty foods like mysis? If need be, look for a LFS that sells live brine or mysis until you can wean him over to frozen foods.

You're doing the right thing with a good variety of foods. My next thought is just to give him some time to settle in. If he's going to eat, he'll eat when he gets hungry. It's also possible that the fish is ill or too severely stressed to eat.

Make sure you're not scaring the fish from coming out in the open to feed. I have a skittish YT in QT right now that won't come out to eat if I'm anywhere near the tank. If this is a possibility, throw in some food and step out of the room. Keep an eye from a distance and see if he eats. If possible, throw in a known quantity of food and check back later to see if anything has been eaten.

Good luck!

Avoid feeding the flesh foods. The fish needs whole foods. Also, this carnivore doesn't have to eat every day.

On the plus side he's happily Taken the shrimp meat now.
So know i can start working him toward a more balanced diet.
