View Full Version : power head placement questions.

I have a 75 gallon tank with a overflow box on one side and return water on the otherside flowing towards the overflow box. Where would be ideal spots to place a couple powerheads so I do not get dead spots? Should the flow point down, sideways, up from the bottom? Just curious on what people had success with. I will have live rock to cover the powerheads if they are place in the back of the tank.

Well getting all the dead spots will require a few powerheads. I have a total of 5 in my 220. Three at the surface one mid way and one near the bottom (just high enough not to cause a sand storm. The only dead spots that I have are inside the liverock structures.

I also have 75 gal. I have 3 max-jets (1-900 and 2-1200). You need to try different spots. Each time I get coral I need to play around more with placement.

I have a 50gallon with two Seio 820s not many dead spots only a slight one behind the rock.

problem I found with Seios is that they pump and bracket is so big in the tank, it sticks out. So I like the Max-jets better.

But the Seio use less watts.....Wish I could use my spares pumps in my tank.
