Skimmer Question

I have an ASM G-2 that is currently in my sump next to the fuge. Some of the light from the fuge shines on one side of the skimmer reaction chamber. Some algea has grown on the inside of the chamber (on one side). I know they need to be cleaned, but how drastically will this effect the efficiency of the skimmer (or will it)? I clean the collection cup and neck everytime I empty the skimmer.

It can potentially be a problem. Many people whose skimmers are exposed to extra lighting wrap them in an opaque material to prevent light from entering.

I would find a way to stop it from getting to the skimmer. It will only become detrimental if the algae is left to grow. Just make sure you clean it in the meantime.
