sounds like an Asterina starfish. most are harmless, some have been reported to munch on some corals. the only thing the ones i have eat is algae!

no harm get a reef safe harleqin shrimp if there are alot. theyll keep 'em in check and have a natural source of tube feet (what harlequins strictly eat) again no harm but alot could be a pandemic so harlequin or any reef safe star fish eaters will be beneficial. only problem is if you have any starfish they will eat them . they are very slow eaters so i wouldnt worry aboutr them starving for now. these stars are common in reef tanks and are harmless....but large population is woriesome. i mean about 100 visable. if you can only count 25 visable your in no worried stage yet. thats normal!
