Does anybody have one of these? They are the achillies/goldrim or an powder blue/goldrim. A LFS just got a few of these in and I can get one for $20. I know that they are pretty hard to come by

They are somewhat rare, but not uncommon. I would consider that a good price for either of those Xs.

Wow, I think that's a great price! Very nice-looking fish as well.

you would be hard pressed to get any tang for that price. I say go for it.

I always thought they were really rare? FWIW, the achilles/goldrim might be hard to care for. But hybrids might be more hardy, kind of like how mutts don't have as many genetic problems.

Well I just got back from the lfs and after much research and looking at the hybrid and the goldrim tang I came to the conclusion that this is not a hybrid......It just a goldrim. I was not too happy. I showed the the employees the difference between the two and they agred. So I passed, but I did get a Tomini Tang for the same price...

I guess this goes to show you that even if a lfs says its x fish make sure that it is what your getting. Im not blaming the lfs its the fish farm who told them is was the hybrid...

Here is a shot showing my goldrim/powder blue hybrid... note the steel blue mix between powder blue nd grey and characteristics from both species... like all hybrids each specimen is unique showing different combinations between the two species (easily evident in the common lemonpeel/half black Centropyge hybrid... this showed the best mix, but quite honestly most people outside of the hobby would consider a powder blue prettier... the same reason my wife prefers my yellow over my Christmas Island black!:D

Here is a below shot of an achilles/goldrim hybrid that originates from Hawaii. I once owned one of these after purchasing it directly and carrying it back by plane from Oahu but it died shortly after. It was just $35 (regular achilles and goldrims were $15 retail).

These fishes are rare and can go for high prices like this one. (http://www.thepetstop.com/showprofile.cgi?index=6152&cat=livestock.fish.tangs&loc=&listpage=1) There are many other oddball tang mutants that show up here and there like these...
The "white" Zebrasoma flavescens also from Hawaii...

These Z. scopas mutants seemed to be more common years ago...

Of course the Zebrasoma holy grail... Z. gemmatum...

The display tank is a 180 at the moment with over 400 total gallons on the system with a 6 foot frag tank, refugium, and large sump. The 180 will eventually be upgraded to something 500+. More pics are in my gallery... thanks!
