View Full Version : which fish are prone to ich?
Curious what the incidence has been with certain species.

Tangs, as far as I have seen, are by far the most susceptible. This directly correlates to the small amount of "slime" these fish produce in comparison to other fishes.
I should have put rabbits into the poll, too: I've never had one that didn't show a bit of it sooner or later.

Fish that live in areas of high water movement tend to be prone to parasites. Maybe that is why they don't produce as much slime as their bretheren in the lagoon. The parasites don't swim well.
That's a curious and reasonable thought, smatter. The slimiest fish in my lot is the mandarin: ich won't stick. A lot of little white dots cling to him, from off the sand, and can look like it, but no---stuff sticks to him like a 3 year old wrapped in flypaper. I was about to intervene in the notion he had an eye parasite, but no, he shed it: it was some piece of stuff he'd wandered through. I've never had one of his ilk come down with anything.

butterflies
I should run this again sometime, for sure, and take out the blennies and gobies, that seem to get no votes, and put in rabbits and butterflies and damsels.
I also note that clowns, though heavily slime coated by the nature of their 'job', do get it: but due to their popularity, they also find themselves in new tanks with new hobbyists: they've only picked up a fraction of a vote, though---tough little fellows.
