I am starting to get an aptasia problem in my nano tank. I've tried Joe's Juice but it doesn't seem to get rid of them. How are Peppermint shrimp at getting rid of Aptasia? Thanks for any help.

I had quite a few aptasia in my tank. I added 6 peppermint shrimp and within 2 weeks I had none. Sadly my feather dusters dissappeared as well. Now I think I only have 2 peppermints left but I still have no aptasia

I've always had Pepp shrimp in my tanks & never had aptasia spread. I've put rock in w/aptasia & it disappears
There was even large one I didn't think they would eat & it was gone the next day

Worked for me also but it is not a given that they will eat them. From what I had read before it seems like it is about a 70% chance they will eat them.

That's why I'll buy a few of 'em, I know nothing is 100% in this hobby.

There are a couple of different kinds of pep shrimp, I don't know it it's easy to visually tell the diff, But I was told that you could pretty well tell by where they were colllected from. Anyway that's part of why they have the reputation of being hit or miss.

Also, they work much better if you add several, like 6 or more.

If you want to go to the trouble of mailordering shrimp you could try contacting jeremy at Coral reef aquarium www.inverts.com.

He's very helpful and should have a good idea of what kind of peps he has on hand. I got 9 little ones from him a few months ago to clean up a frag tank that was getting overrun with aptasia, did the trick very nicely.

My experience is only 1/2 to 2/3 of them will eat aiptasia. Thus, buying more than one increases your odds.

Best of luck,
