I am planning to install a MaxiJet Powerhead on a tank with surface area of 20" by 12" to create a wave that clear the water surface. Should I get the Maxijet 900 or 600. I tried the spare Maxi 1200 and create a storm inside the tank when the wave hit the tank wall and move the wave down under the water..

Maxi 1200 = 295GPH
Maxi 900 = 230GPH
Maxi 600 = 160 GPH

I would try the 900 out, that should be what you are looking for.

How deep is the tank, gallons?

Did you create a sand storm?
You could buy the 600, then mod it a liitle if you need more power

Get the 600 model. Theres a way to get more flow through a maxi-jet if needed anyways. You can PM me and I'll send you a link if you would like.

I've got a Mini-Jet 400, a Maxi-Jet 1200 and everything in between. When it comes to flow, sometimes you've just got to experiment and see what works best for your setup. Maxi-Jets are such a reliable (and fortunately inexpensive) little pump. So even if one is too strong; just stay in the hobby long enough, you'll eventually find a need for it. Good luck.
