I have a surface bloom on my 75. My nitrates are low at 2.5 and all other perameters are good. The rest of the tank is algae free, just the water surface is poluted. I run a uv in the return and I really don't know why at this point. Any suggestions for a remedy? I have been feeding ocean nutrition freeze dried algae lately could this be a cause? thanks for any input.

sorry about this vague answer but it can be many things... such as overstocking, phosphates, lighting, amount of food u fead in a day, parim. that are off.. there are many problems to algae... i would check out all of your parim... and get back to us....

Do you run a skimmer?

Please post the picture how you setup your wavemaker/powerhead

I am currantly running a skimmer which seems to be doing a fairly good job.As far as water movment I have 2 200gph and one 400gph powerheads. One top left rear corner, one bottom right rear corner blowing behind rockwork, and the 400 front right corner which I have recently repossioned to break the surface of the water a bit. I also have a 3/4 return line from the sump with mag 5 in the middle of the top of the tank. I did a halide bulb change about a month ago. I went from 10000k hamiltons to 15000k XM's. Tank is most definatly a different world since. Seem to be dimmer lighting but corals are doing ok but some seem to bend towards the light. I should also add I run 2 bags of chemi pure in my sump. I have not had a phosphate kit in a long time because I have never needed it. I do weekly water changes in my 75gal. anywheres from 5 to 7 gallons. Salt water and top off water are all RO filtered. As far as water perameters go my nitrates are 2.5ppm CA 550ppm but ALK is quite low 2.9mql. I have been struggling keeping it up for a while. I dose system with Reef solution daily, Iodine and Strontum, Molydeum weekly along with BIonic Part 1 and 2. I started using BIonic a few months ago but I am not impressed with its buffering capacity. I sometimes dose Kalk in my top off water every 2 or three week for a week sesion. Been thinking of buying a couple Seio 600gph power heads.Water temp on average 79 to 81 degrees. In the past I fed my reef rarely but I have for the past several months fed fish daily and corals 1 to 2 times a week. Corals are sometimes target fed. I have not had any increase in nitrates so I have continued feeding.Think I may throw a polyfilter in the sump and see if it helps. Any info one might be able to pass along my ears are open. I do siphon it off as best as possible when doing water change but it is back quite quickly.Thank You.
