I finally caught the crab that was eating my fish and inverts.
I havent been able to find what type or what family he comes from.
Can anyone help me out, I havent seen one with this coloration before.
Thanks.

It's pretty difficult to get an ID on crabs.

Most people stick to anmes like "rock crab" or "gorilla crab", besides the well-known good types of crabs for reef aquariums.

its a male Xanthid sp. you will want to get rid of it as they are often destructive. they love to munch on soft corals.

It looks like a female to me because of the wide "flap" on the underside (I forgot the term). Eh, but details, details. I'm glad you got 'em out Blown

You're probably right, PB. With the comparisson between the two that are both Xanthids, you're probably spot on

i had one in my 360 that i caught a few months ago..he was probabyl there since day 1 and i never noticed till he started to do major destruction. mine is exactly as your pic, and i was told rock crab as well. he ate well over 2000 zoanthids and 13 rics before i caught him.

Unfortunatly I had to kill him to get him out, He cost me over $150 in total of fish, and inverts.
He never touched my corals though.
I had him for 3 years and couldnt catch him.
I will give it credit, he learned real fast and knew what i was trying to do.
I wish I would have been able to keep it alive and he could have lived in my quarantine tank.
Thanks for the ID's

I had a clown go missing and the only thing I thought it could be was a crab. Is this possible?
The clowns normally sleep at the top corners of the tank which is why I am puzzled.
