I saw a picture in the large tank forum of a 1000 gallon reef tank that had a stingray. I suppose in a 1000 gallons you could mix all kinds of things, but I was wondering are any stingrays reef safe in a 290 gallon tank that has only a small amount of live rock and a lot of sand?

i would look into diet and feeding methods first. IMO i dont think you have enough floor coverage. they are scavengers/bottom feeders mainly. they do bury in sand, ive steped on them accidently and got shocked. REEF-ON!!!

they'll eat pretty much anything they can get in their mouth, so i'd say no to being reef safe. then there is the poisonous sting .....

a 290g would be ok for some of the smaller species.

Hmm, I want one but was not aware they could be such a hazard.
