Ok i have been running 4 maxijets and a red sea wavemaker for about a year now in my 90 gallon/softie,clam tank and everything is doing fairly well, corals are growing fish are thriving...but i notice that i am still getting alot of detrius on the sand and in behind the rocks.
I am running 3 maxijet 600's and one 900,and i'm basicly wanting to know if i should switch 2 a couple of SEIO's to increase the flow?
I notice that the corals started doing alot better once i added the wavemaker, and with the seios you cant run them of a wavemaker
What do you guys think would be my best option..
Switch to 2 SEIO 820's or mabey switch to 4 maxijet 1200's or mabey run a 2 maxijets of the wavemaker and add 2 SEIO's?

Not sure what would be the best bet, also TUNZEs are too expensive for me so they are not an option.
Any advice????

I thought the SEIO on a wave maker were a no no?

Yes thats what i mean!!If i buy SEIO's = NO wavemaker.

I would get the 1200 for the 900. I had the 900 and they worked, but not like the 1200 MJ.

I had / have the same issue as you. The 900 are not cutting it.

Ok so what is better....

4 maxijet 1200= $80.00 ----1200GPH/switched=80watts/switched

2SEIO 820=$140-----1640GPH/steady=36 watts/steady

depends. .....The Seio's are more GPH but none "waved". I again am in the same boat as you. I am going to maybe add (1) SEIO not on my wavemaker and see what happens. I like the less watts but do not like the none wavemaker...It is a trade off I think.

I like having all my powerheads on my wavemaker.

I would go with the four maxijet's. I use two 820's on my 90 gallon and they make weird noises sometimes and when you shut them down they dont always startup. They are coming out with a new controller for the seios and that might be an option. But I use two maxijet's 600 in my 30 gallon and they keep runnin and runnin and runnin. Then the final option is a Tunze if you like to spend that kind of money.

But, overall the four maxi 1200 on a wavemaker are going to make your corals the happiest, for the amount of money most of us like to spend!!!

Sounds like your in the same sittuation as me.I dont want to lose the wave action as like i said my corals came to life after i added it!
I think i may purchase one SEIO and try it out for now.
Another thing im factoring in is that i dont like having 4 PH's in the tank it looks to cluttered and 2 SEIOS would LOOK much better.

I agree. People love to say the 900 are XX less money to use but so far they are poor in my tank. The 60 GPH is worth the extra watts. So little but make a huge difference.

2 Seio 820s blow MJ1200s away. 2 Seios draw 36 watts and move 1640 GPH or really diffused water all over the tank. 4 MJ 1220s draw 92 watts and move only 1168 GPH and only is a directed stream. MJ powerheads are great for other uses but not for movement in a tank. I use them to feed calcium reactors, Phosban reactors and skimmers but all are either 400, 600 or 900 powerheads. I use a 1200 to sometimes blow detritus off the rocks but they are energy hogs and heat generators for constant use.

in watts yes, the Seios are king but not in a wavemaker. PLus they are HUGE in a tank.

So if i were to get 2 SEIO 820's would i put 1 on each side facing each other so there streams hit each other or what?
Its a 4foot long 90Gallon tank.

Also there is supposed to be a SEIO controller out on the market now that will switch 2 SEIO's from 30% to %100 power.I think 2 SEIO's and the controller would be the absoulute best way to go.

mburnickas

I would put one high and one lower and see what happens. Or put one facing the center the other facing that Seio.

Again the issue is there are a steady state power head and not on a wave maker. That is the one reason why I use them for making water changes and not on my tank. I use MJ for that.

i would like to know that same. If so, I would buy one. I know some other PH have them but I do not want to spend the $$$$$,

The Seio 620 and 820 are just barely bigger than a MJ1200 when mounted Tunze style without all the extra stuff they come with. Maybe 1/2" bigger overall?
I have mine in each back corner pointing towards the center. If you don't want a lot of pumps or plumbing inside the tank you could investigate a closed loop with a SCWD as an alternative. I actually have both with the closed loop powered by an OceanRunner 3500 thru a SCWD and out thru Loc Line fittings that can be pointed whereever. With the conbination of the two plus the sump return there is lots of random current.

you can just do the stream mod to the maxijets you have, it will cost about $25, and youll get a ton of flow.

OK,OK hold the onto your hats here.....
I just got off the phone with my internet fish store and he told me to wait a little while(2 weeks-1 month) because what he showed me is going to kick the **** out of everything else i have looked at yet.

I'm sure some of you have heard of these coming out,but here is a link anyways.

Tunze is too expensive for me but this new stuff thats coming out is supoosed to be around the same price as the current SEIO stuff, but TUNZE quality.
Check it out......

Turbelle Nanostream 6055!!!!!
He said i could hook 2 up to a multicontroller and have the wav action too.Check out the magnetic holders that come with it too,no more suction cups.

I have a couple 6045s on preorder. Should be just under $100 ea but thats still much more than a Seio or several MJs.

Well i am willing to spend more then SEIO $ but not quite Turbelle $$.
If this is in between then i'll do it.

I am going to try them. Its still kind of expensive at $100 ea but better than what streams were.

If I were you, I would keep what you have and wait until the new Tunze NanoStreams come out. They are AWESOME and you can use them w/ your red sea wavemaker.

They are supposed to be out between Sept. and Dec. and will retails for around 70 US.

Hey Waxxie i see you are in Winnipeg,do you know if S.W.C is going to be getting the Nanostreams?

And yes i think i am going to wait!

They can get them @ Fish gallery. You have to request Yew Wing to order them for you though. I'm getting my Stream 6060 from him. I don't typically go to SWC.

OK cool,i know Ewing better then Jayson but i thought most people went to SWC.When will they be available from him?
Are you preordering it?

I haven't asked him yet but he is making a big Tunze order soon so it may be a good time to ask.
