Hello everyone I'm back- had posted here a long time ago, have the equipment ready for a 55 gal, and yet life has just made it very hard to get that up and running.

So hubby and i did some research and decided we'd like to try a nano tank just to see how it all works and have something slightless less huge to care for to make sure we're good for it !! Going from empty tank to reef is a very committed process.. and much easier on the wallet to start small at least anyhow!

So here we are at day 1. 12G with some live sand and rock set up and ready to cycle. Ideally I'd love to keep a clown in there, but we plan tow ork on getting perhaps some corals first and a cleanup crew and go with what fish will work then and with how much space we have left. Don't count your fish before they hatch, right?! It's so late now I'm brain dead but the tank is an Aqua-something I can fill in the name later. Very similar to the Nano-cube design.

you made a wise choice. nano-cube is notorious for breaking for no appearant reason. the fold in the glass gives way. they are having a recall, so ive heard. what if you lost everything and threw it in the trash and gave up? then they said: "sorry, i guess you have to start over"

One last post before I promise I will go to sleep! I have to go to dim sum tomorrow I need to be awake by then!

As for the corals, perhaps you guys could help me see if any of these species would do well for a 12g... And if any would be best for it. Being a woman and one that could oogle all day at the pics of everyones tanks, i'd pick the "prettiest" to me so long as they would live happily int he tank :)

From what I understand some mushrooms and polyps can do really well and I'd even hope to be able to keep an anemone if i spelled it right.. I am *just* a beginner though so any tips or suggstions would be appreciated!

For the most part we've said okay lets get this started and go from there once we see what it looks like cycled and ready for the slow road to glory :0)

Also, tiny boxfish? little yellow box with a tail.. SO CUTE i'd love to have one of them someday. Not sure if a tiny tank is good for them if they stay small. need to do more research. Like the goofy clownfish though eventually possibly would like that.

Need to get corals to match a kind of fish.. brain.. shutting.. down.. must.. go .. stare at tank.. and then.. sleep :)

Keithntracy,

I think when we originally found out about this forum and all the interesting little fish places that dotted Orlando.. we went there- really tiny tiny tiny but super duper cool place by lake underhill right?

It was busy so it got crowded really fast but now that we have a tank to start stocking soon we'll go say hi :) Thanks!

You mentioned wanting a clown? Can't go wrong with a small percula clown, IMO. I've had mine for about 6-7 years now.

good luck, Frank

Keithintracy I gotta say thanks we did go to Sea in the City and Marcye wasn't there but her staff is very friendly and helpful and even called her to have us bug her on the phone :) Since our tank was cycled but still relatively new they helped us get a very conservative cleanup crew with 3 red hermits, 3 astrea turbos, 3 margaritas.

Here's some day 11 pics- just click on the thumb to see big high res stuff:

Apparently its a baby bristle worm.. my little pink unidentifiable has become my little pink baby. It has a friend that looks just like it that crawls in and out of a hole by one of the barnacles its so cute!

Time for another update :) Since May 21st we've had our cycle, added our cleanup crew- which eventually included an emerald crab and cleaner shrimp (I LOVE how friendly the shrimp can be!)..

And just today we brought home our newest members - as featured below in some new pics (you can visit www.flickr.com/photos/christie for more)

Our future plans? Wait a while and let these new guys thrive.. possibly add in some more beginner coral - mushrooms or maybe yuma (spelling? the Ricorda stuff) and since we weren't 100% sure how we wanted our tank to look - who ever is until you stuff it full of everything you want?! We'll probably add in a pound or two of more rock here or there to add to the ecosystem and fill in some space that isn't really being used.
