I've searched on this topic and think the answer to how much salt I use per gallon of water is only obtained through trial and error. I add salt until I get to the right salinity? I guess I expected the salt (Tropic Marine) to come with some type of guideline but it didn't. I need approximately 150 gallons at about 1.025. Any guidelines as to what (how much salt) to start with per gallon or per any fixed amount of RO/DI water? Thanks!

The general rule of thumb is 1/2 cup per gallon of water. Then fine tune to the desired SG. Please tell me you have at least a swing arm hydrometer.... A refractometer is a must if you don't have one.

I would hope you have some sort of hydrometer, just go by trial and error, over time you will have a pretty good idea on how much you need to add without measuring.

Thanks all, that helps a lot! I have a refractometer so I'll test as I go. Was just looking for some place to start.

Yeah most common rule of thumb is 1/2 cup per gallon.

I use a five gallon bucket for water changes. I have an old CD spindle package top that I marked for 2 1/2 cups of salt. I level it, toss in, done. No forgetting where I am in the count. Same plastic top serves for a dipper.
