This is my first piece of acropora(which I purchased Friday evening), but the store I bought it from couldn't tell me anything about it other than it is some long polyp acropora, which is pretty obvious(I think?)

Also, the day after I bought it I was looking at it and noticed that at the base, it is white, and dead. Is it possible this is from when it was cut? Or maybe because light can't reach that area? Am I just being paranoid?

Thanks,

Looks like Hyndonphora, not acropora to me. ;)

Thanks for the reply,

Do you know what species(I guess it would be species)? I want to read up on this

I look at some of the image results for Hydnophora in google, and didn't see anything that looked like mine. The branches are round like acropora(Hard to see in the thumbnail, but easier to see in the full shot I posted). I'm not good with terminology yet so bare with me. The holes where the polyps extend from also look alot like other acropora species I've seen. All of the Hydnophora that I can find branches seem to have a more defined shape. Next time something walks on it I'll try to get a picture so the skeleton can be seen in more detail.

Some type of stag/green slimer would be my guess. As for more definitive it's hard to tell.
