The plumbing is finished. The back is painted. Now, I'm making RO. Soon the tank will be up and running. Getting anxious.

sorry it took so long for more pictures. These is really getting fun and exciting. Since I last posted I have added salt, purchased a new pump; mag 18; gotten sand; thanks diane for sending me the link; and added a filter sock. The filter sock cleared the wate up over night. Oh yea, I also ordered a new skimmer. An ASM G-3. Can't wait for that to arrive. Here is a pic of where the tank stands now. It looks a little cloudy. Not sure why but they all turned out that way. Thanks everyone. Brian

Thanks everyone. Now I need a little help. I need to know what tests I need to test the water? How often should I test? What should everything be at? What supplements do I need to add. And anything else I may not know yet. Thanks to everyone for the help and support. This has got to be the hobby w/ the most helpful people. Thanks again and can't wait to see everyone at Ted's. Brian

Nitrates, Nitites, PH & Ammonia are what we test for the most. Phosphates, calcium and alkalinity are others I dont test as often.
I add the ESV 2 part Calcium and Alk everyday. BUT I will start with the homemade stuff on the 55 tommorrow.
Good info on that: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=769440

I also think a log book to wright down the test results is good to have, at lest for the first year. It well give you some refrence how the tank has changed.

I would have to agree with Steve,
Earnie made me keep one when I first started my tank, helped me understand the cycling process better
and as the tank came along it was easier to see its stable periods - remember it is just as easy to overdo it or overdose as underdose -
I also kept info re invoices of some of the chemicals or parts I purchased - where I live it is pretty much drive 1 -2 hrs to a store or order on-line - so when I needed to reorder something months and months later it was easier to have a reference re: where I purchased it and what the price range was.

I will take pis on Sun. Quick update. I got the live sand from Ashlie. Thanks Diane for the info on her. When I put the sand in, there were a few pieces of rubble rock that was mixed in. On some of the rocks were a few corals. Not sure what they are. I will try to get some good pics for ID'ing. Also with the sand were 3 hermit crabs. They are still alive, which amazes me since I haven't tested my water at all even for salinity. The tank looks awesome. Last week my new skimmer arrived. It was too big. But thats ok cause it was an wasy fix to make it fit. Even though I don't have much in there, I find myself more and more just sitting and watching the tank. Thanks everyone. Brian

"I find myself more and more just sitting and watching the tank." LOL! I still remember when I set up my tank and had to wait until the homemade LR finished curing. All I had was dead sand. I stared for hours at sand. Then I got dead rocks and stared more. Then I ordered a clean up crew from GARF.org and saw my tank begin to come to life. Take pics because a year from now, there will be LOTS of changes from what the tank looks like now.

Hi everyone. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the meeting. I have been very busy with a few things and haven't really been able to do much of anything. I want to thank John and Steve for the frags. Here are a few pics of the tank. Not much has changed but everything looks good. The frags are doing good and the crabs that came w/ the sand are still alive. I hope to make it to the Aug. metting.

Hey everyone. Sorry I missed the meeting today. Sounds like it went well. Here is a quick update. I got 4 pieces of LR the other day. About 25lbs. Thanks adnup for the pm on the thread. And thanks hxn for the great deal on the lr. It looks great in the tank. I am testing the water now. Everything is in the acceptible ranges. Thanks to everyone at FAOIS for the advice and testing chart. Makes my life a lot easier. I need to know what additives I need to add to keep the coarline alive? Also, I need to figure out the best way to make an auto top-off. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks everyone. I wont beable to make it to the next meeting if it is the first Sat. in Sept. I will be in CT. Here is a pic with the new LR in it.

I made my top off like <a href="http://www.melevsreef.com/plumbing/auto_topoff.html" target="_blank">THIS</a> (http://) and used a cheap fountain pump I got off Ebay for like $5.

Thanks Paul. I finished my top off. Works great. I also finished the water storage. I have 2 55 gal drums. The RO feeds directly into the top drum. The top and bottom druym are connected by PVC w/ a ball valve. The other PVC on the top drum is for the fresh water I need for the top off. I have an air stone in the top and will put a power head in the bottom. Here are a few pics.
