Junk, is all I have heard about them... They are hard to adjust to get them to skim right, and everyone that I have heard of using them has got rid of them, and got something better...

Here is a few links to something better for alittle more money, but will out perform a Seaclone, this one is a Aqua C Remora, they have several options that you can choose what will fit your needs for your tank...

Aqua C Remora HOB (http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=ACRM)

This one is around $200 and instead of a "spray injection system" like the Aqua C Remora, it uses the "needle wheel system"

Aqua Media Turboflotor (http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=AMTFKOR)

Also if your looking for a skimmer, check out the selling forums, their is always used skimmers in their for sale, that you might like and will be slightly used and in good condition...

But as for the Seaclone, IMO don't waste your time...

oh yea

If you have a 180 gallon tank, then your going to want something that goes in sump, not a hang-on I just saw your current tank description my bad.

has anyone got a seaclone skimmer if so what are they like? Had one. Kept the Maxi-Jet pump and threw the rest of it away ...HARD! It took constant fiddling with it to get even mild results. IMO they're one of the worst. Best of luck. If you get a SeaClone you're going to need it.

I had a SeaClone and upgraded to the Coralife Superskimmer 65. Skip the SeaClone

OK. I have a SeaClone 150 for my 90AGA. It's in the sump and I pull out about 1/4 cup of green stuff every day. I don't know if that's good or not. My bio-load is some corals and six medium sized fish. From what i've seen it appears to be working decent. Any in-sight is appreciated. Also, if you go to there site, many of the mods are now standard. Don't mean to hijack the thread but am REAL interested in what others are pulling out of their tanks in relation to bio-load.

Get a Fission Nano Skimmer , it works just as good as Potassium Cyanide.

J/K...

Don't go for a Sea Clone, lot of problems. Din't own one , but go for Coralife , almost the same price and better. Just recently got one and pretty happy with it!

I had one for a week. Although it did pull some gunk out, not nearly as much as my corallife. For a little more $ you can get a better skimmer.

Mike 1911A1 Thanks for the in depth in-sight rObin.

I wasn't talking to you I was talking to the orginal thread starter. Besides if you have a sea clone you know it sucks already.

I am actually useing my seclone right now as a nitrate sponge reactor if that tells you how good it is.

I opened it up and took the inner tube out broke off the smaller tube on the bottom and hooked the pump directly to the skimmer. Filled it up with kent nitrate buffer and put it in the sump.

So IMO it works great just not as a skimmer.

My old seaclone is in the back of a cabanet right now and just using the MJ1200 it comes with.

Mike Mike, some skimmer is better than no skimmer. I tried a SeaClone on a 29g with a moderate bio-load (pr of Maroon Clowns, BTA, Orchid Dottyback and various corals. The only thing it did well, was swirl water. I couldn't even imagine it on my 90. The fact that so many modifications are required is really the issue. It shouldn't be necessary to re-engineer something brand new out of the box just to make it work. But again ...something is better than nothing. If it's working for you then good.

I bet I could take a straw and blow bubles into an empty soda bottle and collect as much waste as my old SeaClone used to.

Just for comparison purposes I'll add this:

When I was first starting out, I couldn't afford the SeaClone, so I bought the Red Sea Berlin Airlift skimmer. This is the in-tank, airstone powered skimmer rated for up to 60 gallon tanks. I used this for awhile with pretty decent results actually. I eventually saved up enough money and bought me a shinny new SeaClone. Got it home, installed it, messed with it for week and finally got it to skim. The Berlin Airlift kicked it's butt every day of the week and twice on Sunday's. I'd get a full cup from the Berlin in 2 days, I think I emptied my SeaClone once a month maybe. The MJ1200 from the SeaClone is still in use but as most others have done I threw away my SeaClone. I still have the Berlin Airlift sitting in my closet in case I ever have a need for it, that thing is the best skimmer 30 bucks can buy.
