I'm about to make a light purchase for a tank that will be 24" tall and will have a 2" - 2.5" deep sand bed. I plan to keep a couple of clams and a few SPS. The light will be a 150W and I plan to run a 14K bulb. Is the 150W enough for this setup? The tank width is only 24" so I'm mainly concerned with light penetration as apposed to light coverage.

150 halides is fine, some people get away with 70 HQI.
depending on the SPS though, some will need to be placed higher. also, it also depends on how high the light placing will be.

Some of the brighter colored acros might need more than 150w to color them nicely.
Wouldn't cost that much more to buy a 250 hqi setup.

It seems that 250W is a common recommendation. OK, seeing that I might be able to get a 150W Outer Orbit, is there a known mod to make it 250W?

Thanks again.
