Get a fan, an ordinary small fan. Blow it over your water surface or over your sump 24/7. If you have any solid lids left in the system, take them off. It's summer. Remember sand and rock lag behind water in heating up or cooling down, so it will take time to get lower temp stability.

Agreed with Sk8r, get a couple of fans. 83 isn't too high though so I would alos invest in a heater to prevent it from dropping to low, set it around 78 degrees. I know it may seem redundant, but this will prevent any temps swings of greater than 1 or 2 degrees.

Fans work best. I always used one until I killed mine at the end of last summer. I just added a new one yesterday and it is keeping my temp right around 82-83 degrees today. The other day without the fan it spiked to 87.

if it really gets bad, you can put frozen water bottles in your sump, just make sure you have the heater ready if the temp goes to low.

I was out for the day and came home tonight and my tank spiked up to 87.7. I added 3 gals of ro water that was just being made no heater in bucket so it cooled it down to 86.9. Is this too hot and will it cause ich if coolto fast? I also did not let halides come on good thing I have them on timer to start at 10.30 pm due to work schedule.

Everything I've read says that cooling the tank too quick is worse for the livestock than the temp being too high. Have you mounted a fan to blow across the surface yet?
