View Full Version : Mh ?
Was in the LFS the other day and they have the same MH fixture as I do but they have it about a foot or so off the water. Where as mine is only about 6 inches at the most. What would be the best light height for a 2 foot deep tank ?

higher for spectrum and heat. the farther away the light, the wider its spread. my tank is 25" tall and the lights are 8" from water surface. REEF-ON!!!

Alot depends on the reflector...its determines the coverage area, not the bulb.
Thanks for the responses. I would assume the manufacturer of my light would have taken that into consideration then as it came with feet to sit on the lip on a tank.

I would assume that they designed their light to yield good coverage on the average size tank. Meaning the most popular sizes of Oceanic or All-Glass tanks, you know, widely available and relatively inexspensive tanks. What "most" people have. I have one of each!
Chances are, its pretty darn close to the optimum position. Unless you have some weird size or shape of tank.
