Hi, Im thinking about getting this fixture as well, but I have a few questions.

1. Since their are no legs available as of yet, Is it safe to be laid
on top of eggcrate which is covering the top of my 180 gallon tank, or will the heat from this unit melt the plastic of the eggcrate covering. Also Since their is a center brace on the aquarium, it wont melt that as well?

2. To keep cost down for me, do all 14 lamps need to be filled(used ) at once or can I elect to fill only a few at once, and as I get more $$$ buy additional lamps as needed.

3. Also what are the dimensions again?

Thanks, Ron

Ron,
All of our fixtures are designed to sit directly on top of a tank. The riser brackets are not necessary. You will not melt the eggcrate nor your center brace. I am using one of our 72" T5 fixtures directly on my 180ga tank and have not been having any problems at all.

No, not all 14 lamps need to be installed. There are seven (7) rows of T5s split among three switches/power cords. The first switch powers rows 1, 4, and 7. The next switch powers rows 3 & 5, and the last switch powers rows 2 & 6. Each row has 2 39W T5s. So, you use either just two rows, four rows, five rows, or all 7 rows. This allows you to control your lighting intensity.

3. Also what are the dimensions again?

The 72" T5 fixture is 72" L x 14" W x 3" H.

Thank you,

Tom
