I think it is more of an Envy Orange....There is a guy that goes by Reef Envy he named them after he got ahold of a frag of the same looking ones. They go for$100 a polyp.....Ouch. But then again after you see that many together it might be worth it if you could keep them alive like Dastank has.....Man, I can look I'm so jealous..:)

there worth it if you want them. That kinda price sorts out the true zoo keeper to the wanta bee. And I'm in the wanta bee class still :D big grin

I have to disagree... it sorts out the people with deep pockets from those without.. it has nothing to do with wanna-bes etc....

I don't know if I couldn't find a trade for some, and I had a $100 that didn't need to be spent on something else I would by 1. Only 1 and it would be one time too.

very nice... but will not pay $100/polyp even if I had deep pockets.. :)

If you can afford it, do it. If not oh well. For how beautiful those are, Id do it. If all goes well with them, you could get your money back real quick.

Very nice Dastank! Let us know when you decide to frag!!!

I live in Japan and bought them at a local frag shop. Some times it's hard to find killer colors here, but I only paid $15 for the whole colony, YES only $15. Crazy huh!

$15, that is excellent.
You guys know what that means?
We may be seeing these flood your local pet stores soon.

Whenever a coral comes in and the pet shops low ball the prices, it's because they got a lot of them, or when they were at the wholesaler, they were everywhere. Or the distributer had tons of them and sold them cheap to the store. There are so many variables.

hopefully I'm right.

I'd like to see them flood our market, their price would drop down to $5 for a 10 polyp frag!

awesome price for awesome zoas.. :) great pick up Dastank...

btw.. you think you can provide us with your lighting and set up?

and yes, I'm all for free enterprise... if you like 'em and you have the money to spend, then do it... :)

Thanks

The Set up:

I have a 29 gal tank w/built in overflow and a 20 gal sump, 4 inch DSB in tank, 5 inch in sump, Ramora Skimmer, TEK T5 lighting, and I just ordered moon lights.

I collect my own water (Living in a sub tropical area has advantages) and I do weekly water changes so I don't dose anything. So far, everything in my tank is growing like crazy.

Probably more than you wanted to know, but you asked.

Those are amazing! I think I saw some of them on a Japanese website going for really cheap too! Man do I wish we could get corals from Japan here!

Some things here can be cheap, but I don't see quite the variety you guys have in the states. It might be a fair trade off.

    thanks, i guess i'm not a worthy collector or reefkeeping hobbyist since i cant afford $100+ per polyps of anything, or drop some pocket change on a new piece of deltec equipment every month. oh well, i seem to think i'm a good reefkeeper and have a good collection, which is all that matters :)

I agree with you Reefjunkie. ;) by all means, let them flood the market and make the people who spend $100/polyp on them feel like gullable idiots once they see them going for $10/polyp or less. i love karma!!

they do look cool. but they just dont really do it for me. i'm tended to not be very impressed by anything until i see it in person. armagedons? nah...but havent seen them in person. those armor of gods we were talking about in the other thread? i would have said no thanks a month ago, but saw them in person and had almost had an anyurism.

btw, i tend to look at "success" in this hobby as defined as the ratio of how much money of spent on equipment and livestock over how much livestock i've killed. so far i think i'm doing better than anyone i know personally. although, i GOTA figure out a way to keep the fish from jumping out of the tank. i have totally given up on fish  (and stupid astrea snails that cant self right themselves!)
