Can anyone tell me why the PH in my FOWLR tank is spiking at 8.7? I have 110 gal with 55lbs LR. thanks any help is appreciated

Do you dose anything?
What salt are you using?

observation: try to add another 55lbs of LR.

What additives are going into the tank? How are you testing pH? The most common cause of high pH seems to be supplements. Testing errors are also an issue. This article might be useful:

i agree i would try another test kit . i used hagen for a while and now use seachem going to move to salifert. i would check your ph. on your next water change water as well

Yes to all of the above:
High PH is usually due to:
a) Testing error (Chem kits are off most of the time)
b) Addition of high PH supplements (B-Ionic, Kalk etc.)
and rare but happens:
c) Lack of dissolved CO2, Tanks with lots of phothosynthesis can generate a lot of Oxygen and consume the CO2 resulting in increased PH. In this case good tank aereation will help.

So check for those posibilities

How is your Alkalinity?

Thank you for the good info on the problem with my PH. I have come to realize that I DO need more LR, and have put three powerheads in the tank for aeration. I will be getting more LR ASAP. Again thanks.
