View Full Version : if anyone sees a black dog...

lace got out yesterday afternoon while i was at work. she jumped out an upstairs window onto the neighbor's roof, then jumped down into some bushes (i found the broken branches).
i can't imagine her jumping out unless something *really* exciting was going on (with people involved who would have seen her), and then i figured she'd only make it a few blocks before latching onto someone. i put up flyers in a few-block radius last night, but just got a call from someone who said she saw her all the way over at terrace view. probbaly a different dog, i can't see how she would have made it all the way over there during the day.

Matt, good luck finding her, did you call the animal shelter yet? Lacy is a smart dog so you have that going for you. Call or PM me if I can do anything to help. Michael R

i'll make sure to keep a look out for her matt. doesnt seem likely she'd be able to make it across the entire town, but "if" she could, do you think she'd know how to make it back to your old place? she's really smart.

I was wondering like Alex if you checked over near your old house? Also wondered if Lace may have been trying to hide from the thunder we have been having. Let us know when she shows up. Good luck. Michael R

nothing whatsoever. got flyers up in all the grocery stores, vets, and animal shelters. i don't have a good feeling. if she was wandering the streets, she would have found her way back home by now. she knows her way around. if someone picked her up with the intent of getting her back to me, they would have seen a flyer by now. i think my only hope is that someone picked her up with the intent of taking her to the pound (so not even looking for flyers) and hasn't gotten her over there yet because of the limited hours they are open.

OK, got her back. someone one street over took her in the day she got out (probably within an hour or two), couldn't keep her due to allergies so passed her off to a friend (who also has a border collie) who just noticed the fliers today. she does have a pretty bad limp, which i guess is from jumping off the roof.

looks like the limp is just from a split pad.

so i got a call a few minutes ago... "hey, did you lose a dog?". figured someone found a similar dog and found a flyer i must have missed. turns out she got out again today. the thunderstorms must have freaked her out. she's always been terrified of them, but never had the urge to run from it.
the only way she could have gotten out was the same way as before, but the window was closed this time (and still closed when i got home). i think she opened it herself, and it closed itself after her (it needs a stick to stay open). i need bars on it i guess.
too smart + taste of freedom = bad news
but at least this time i had a good phone number etched into her tags so i got the call right away. she made it across main street to a small cluster of homes, still within sight of my place. i wonder if she made it across main street with skill or luck.

Isolated thunderstorms today Sunday Monday and next Thursday according to Yahoo weather. She is a smart dog but you better make it harder to get out as we don't want her to have any bad luck. Good luck! Michael R :D

Once they learn a way out its sooo hard to stop them plotting to do it again. For years I left my windows open in the summer with screens on them and it was enough to keep Noodles and Sam in, then one day Noodles (the instigator of everything evil) must have pushed hard enough to pop one out and then none of my windows were safe till I found a way to secure them. Then since she KNEW that this was a way out she started scratching and biting at the screen.........so now I have no screens on my windows or my doors. Bugs come and go as they please...............hope one bites her. yars

Have you tried putting an old tee shirt on Lacy when the thunder is loud? Supposedly you put it on then bunch it up in back so its snug around her chest.........for some reason its supposed to calm dogs that are afraid of loud noises. They even sell stuff that has velcro to snug around them but a old tee shirt is free, plus it smells of you.
Glad she is home.............again!

BTW, the thought of her crossing that street........eeek

My dog, of course, has an attitude problems. Would you think of it looking at her ? She races out into the yard to bark at thunder storms, fireworks and passing F-16s   I tell you, the fenced in yard was the best investment we made when we moved in to the house.

alright. now she's just making me look stupid. got out again today. 15 minutes after i got in to work, got the call. she crossed main street again and made it 1/2way to my office before someone grabbed her. no clue how she got out this time. it's like someone is screwing with me and letting her out. i think i'm going to pretend to leave sometime and stake the place out and watch to see how she's doing it.
