View Full Version : what has happened to my RBTA anenome - pics

ok this anenome i've had for about a month and it's been doing good. I feed it every 3 days, either some krill, silversides, or shrimp. It's under 6x54W tek lighting system. 90G tank with
ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 0ppm
phosphate 0ppm
copper 0ppm
calcium 420
magnesium 1300
etc.... SG 1.025 temp 81

and i go and look at the tank now and this :(

what could of happened? it also looks like he's got some brown stuff coming out of his mouth? (waste maybe) but he's never looked like this since i brought him home from the fish store.

Any ideas / suggestions would be GREATLY appr.

Wait.


Anemones shrink and shrivel periodically to expel waste. If it starts happening often, or lasts more than a few hours, you may have a problem. Otherwise, I bet your anem will be back to normal by tomorrow.

thank you. I have to go to work now, but hopefully he'll look better when i get home. It's funny they can get soooooo BIG and then so little

I believe that they are inflated with water and when the expel the waste they shrink and then they will inflate themselves again. Mine inflated is about 6 inches across and when she's folds up she shrinks into a crack in the rock and is almost invisible.

mine did the same thing this morning and when the lights came on it came out, just refilling the water and removing the waste :)

Mine just did that few minutes ago, expelling some brownish mucus like stuff then shrinking to about a quarter of it's size.

yeah he's looking good now, just walked in the door and ran over to my tank and he's big and beautiful. Yippy hehehhehe
