Is it a good idea to keep a bag of Carbon in your tank at all times? Doesnt' that deplete the minerals like Calcium we add?

I've heard arguments on both sides, but I have always kept carbon in all of my tanks.

I run carbon on my tank in a HOB it helps keep the water clear... I even run extra carbon in some extra cages that I bought for my emporer. I've always been happy with it.

I keep a bag of carbon in my sump How often should I be replacing the carbon and where is the best location in my sump to keep it? I have it in my baffle section where the overflow runs over it. Thanks.

put it in a high flow area and usually once a month is a good rule of thumb. mine sits in mymain sump below the main drain inlets it helps break up the bubbles and the flow keeps it clean.
