I recently found this little piece in close proximity to my green plate coral (approx. 3"). It appears (to me anyways) that it is a baby plate coral.

I got the original coral as a tank born baby and it was quite small when I got it. Underneath of the base, it kind of had a small 'stalk' on it in the center. And the little baby appears to be on what looks to be that stalk, although I haven't lifted up the original to see if the stalk in no longer there.

I thought this was quite an odd discovery. Do you think it is what I think it is, or something else?

Well, I pulled the orignal piece out and the stalk is no longer there, so I believe that it is a baby on the stalk. Pretty cool. :)

It is definitely a baby Fungiid, probably Fungia.

The stalk growths do occur, but it is very rare. That is certainly a good find and a jewel for your tank.
