Hey guys,
I just had a custom made tank with half an inch glass.
Do you guys think the half inch glass would keep my water temperature more stable now??
I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Thanks.

Good question.
The tank isn't so big...36x15x22...
it's in the living room, but it doesn't get too much light..

glass conducts heat

you got 51.4 gallons with 1/2" glass? my 70 only has 3/8" how much did you pay? REEF-ON!!!

Glass isn't nearly as efficient an insulator as acrylic. It may improve your system stability slightly but the thermal capacity of plate glass is quite high at 5-7 Btu-inch/hr-ft~2- ° F while acrylic is only 1.35 Btu-inch/hr-ft~2

This means that while there will be a slight improvement in stability it won't be a great one.

dalbrecht,
so thickness doesn't matter with glass?
Acrylic scratches way too fast. esp with live rock. that's why I went with half inch glass...
nano, I paid a good junk man...300 bucks.. had I wanted 3/8's, it was going to cost me 160... I paid almost double.

$300 is reasonable. was it low iron? i agree on the acrylic issue! have you ever assembled a tank? its not very easy without experience. REEF-ON!!!

www.glasscages.com has the plastic for $18.00 top and bottom. i paid $90.00 for a custom made with braces. not dogin you, i just know that if people see you want a fish tank, they take advantage of the situation. REEF-ON!!!

I have no idea what the iron content is. But this is my second tank I'm putting together. I had a 20 gallon, fish only...I'm going all out reef this time. I know I'm gonna make a ton of mistakes, but that's how I'll learn right? REEF-ON!!

if you research, and listen to experienced reefers. you will make fewer mistakes. it can be costly if you make bad decisions. REEF-ON!!!

good filtration, protien skimmer, good lighting, is generaly all you need. other than live rock and live sand. thats your expence. REEF-ON!!!

chemistry forum. Randy did an experiment with UV, and pretty much proved to be useless. along with ALOT of other things on the market. REEF-ON!!!

I have a penguin 350, cpr bak-pak skimmer, 70 lbs of live sand, 70lbs of live rock... is that enough filtration?
oh, and I have 156 watt t5's...
